Create and modify pages
This learning unit guides you through creating, customizing, and managing webpages using the design studio, including using AI-powered Copilot.
In addition to creating a website, pages, and sections, you can use Copilot in Power Pages to edit new or existing sites. With Copilot in Power Pages, you can:
- Add new pages to the site.
- Add new sections to the site.
- Edit text for tone and length.
- Add custom forms and multistep forms.
Add new pages and sections
Use Copilot to quickly add pages or sections to your site. For example, if you want to add a section with images, a title, and a description, describe it to Copilot by writing, "Add a section with an image, a title, and a mission statement for Woodgrove Bank" Copilot adds the section to your page and provides a preview, where you can accept or delete it. After accepting the changes, you can still undo them.
You can also ask Copilot to add sections with multiple columns by specifying the number of columns, such as "Add a section with three columns."
Additionally, you can ask Copilot to create a new page. For example, you could ask Copilot to "Create an FAQ page for Woodgrove Bank." Copilot generates a page for you to review and include.
Edit text
You can use Copilot to edit the text on your Power Pages website. If the text Copilot adds doesn’t match your expectations, you can ask it to rewrite the content to make it more concise or adjust its tone.
For example, take the mission statement. When you select the text area, Copilot appears along with other standard editing options.
You can direct Copilot to generate new text that conveys a similar message in a different tone. Choose from several available tones and iterate through options to find the best fit.
When you select a tone, Copilot generates and offers a few options. If one option fits, you can select it to replace the previous text. The text remains editable, so you can make final adjustments if needed. The following image shows an example of the dialog and text options.
If the suggested text isn’t what you want, you can continue refining it. Use options like rewrite, tone, and length, provide more details, and try again.
Add new forms
Use Copilot to add forms to your pages. For example, if you want Copilot to create a form for scheduling a financial appointment, describe the form by writing, "Form to schedule an appointment with a financial advisor."
Copilot creates the form and shows a preview for you to review and adjust if necessary. In the preview, you can cancel and start over if you don’t like the form. You can also ask Copilot to add or remove columns.
After making changes, select the OK button to finalize the form. Copilot creates a table in your Dataverse table for the form. The finalized form resembles the following image.
If you describe a multistep process, Copilot generates a multistep form for you.
Create a webpage using Power Pages design studio
To create a webpage in Power Pages, use the Pages workspace in the design studio. This workspace allows you to design and build webpages with in-context editing and no-code or low-code widgets like text, images, and videos.
- Open the design studio and navigate to the Pages workspace.
- Select + Page from the left pane.
- Choose one of the following options:
- Use Copilot: Describe the page you want to create in natural language, and Copilot generates it for you.
- Select layout: Choose from standard or custom layouts to start building your page.
- Add content and components to your page, such as text, images, or forms.
Note
By default, new pages are added to the main navigation. You can change this setting if needed.
Edit and refine Power Pages sites with Copilot
Once your site is created, use Copilot and the WYSIWYG editor to modify its content and design. To add other pages or forms:
Navigate to the Pages workspace in Power Pages.
Select + Page and describe the purpose of the new page.
Review the generated page and refine it using Copilot or the editor.
To add forms, follow the steps outlined in Create AI-generated form using Copilot.
Customize webpages with the design studio page editor
The WYSIWYG editor in the design studio allows you to customize your webpages by adding sections, components, and styles directly on the canvas.
- Add sections: Hover over an editable area, select the plus sign (+), and choose from six layout options.
- Add components: Select + within a section to add components like text, buttons, or images.
- Edit styles: Use the paintbrush icon to adjust styles such as layout, decorations, and typography.
- Drag and drop: Rearrange sections and components by dragging them to the desired location.
Note
Some components, like headers and footers, can't be dragged or deleted.
Generate webpages with Copilot
Copilot simplifies webpage creation by generating pages based on natural language descriptions. To use Copilot:
- Go to the Pages workspace and select + Page.
- Describe the purpose of the page in the text input field and press Enter or select the paper airplane icon.
- Review the generated page and choose Keep it or Delete page.
You can also use Copilot to edit existing pages by typing commands like "Add a section" or "Add a form."
Note
Copilot-generated pages include images saved as web files.
Preview and manage site navigation
Preview your pages to ensure they look great on both desktop and mobile devices. To preview:
- Select Preview from the command bar.
- Choose Desktop to open the page in a browser or scan the QR code to view it on a mobile device.
To manage site navigation:
- Use the ellipsis (...) next to a page name to move, duplicate, or delete it.
- Drag and drop pages to rearrange their hierarchy in the Main navigation section.
Note
Previewing a page resets the site cache, which can briefly impact performance.
