recovery of dynamic IP from deallocated Azure VM

One VM has been automatically deallocated due to SKU deprecation.
Now I started it again to a newer SKU code.

Is there any way to recover its previous IP as static IP in the new one through the support team intervention and help?

In short, unless you have configured the public IP address as static, there is no supported method I'm aware to reclaim the same public IP address.

    More at https://xtls-v4.hkg1.meaqua.org/en-us/answers/questions/2279350/recovering-a-public-ip-address-if-it-has-not-been

If a public IP address in Azure has been deleted, it cannot be recovered unless it has not yet been reallocated to another customer. Azure does not guarantee that a deleted IP will remain available for reuse.

Possible Steps to Recover or Reassign a Public IP

    1. Check if the IP is Still Available
      • Go to Azure Portal > Public IP Addresses and search for the deleted IP.
        • If it appears unassigned, you may be able to recreate it manually.
        1. Try Recreating the Public IP Resource
          • If the IP is still available, create a new Public IP resource with the same configuration.
            • Set the IP assignment to Static to prevent future accidental deletions.
            1. Even if the portal says IP is unavailable, Microsoft Support may be able to help confirm whether the IP has been allocated or not.

    Points to consider:

    • Dynamic IPs cannot be recovered once released.
    • Static IPs may be available for reassignment if they haven’t been allocated elsewhere.
    • Azure does not guarantee IP retention after deletion.
    • In the future, consider reserving important IP addresses to prevent accidental deletion. Hello @ KA,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A

It looks like you're trying to recover a dynamic public IP from a deallocated Azure VM that you restarted to a newer SKU. Unfortunately, once a public IP address is deleted, it gets released and is available for other Azure customers to use, which means you typically can't recover it unless it was a static IP that was preserved by Azure during the deallocation process.

Since you mentioned wanting support team intervention, it’s important to note that support cannot recover deleted dynamic IPs. However, here are some steps you can take to avoid this situation in the future and keep your IP address if needed:

    1. Set the IP Allocation to Static: If you want your IP address to remain consistent after deallocation, always assign a static public IP address to your VM in the future. You can do this by following the guide here: Create a VM with a static public IP address.
    2. Understand the Types of Public IPs: Familiarize yourself with the differences between dynamic and static public IP addresses. Dynamic IPs are released when you stop or deallocate your VM, while static IPs remain assigned until you either delete the VM or change the allocation method to dynamic.
    3. Consider Moving to a Different SKU in Action: If you're planning to frequently change SKUs or modify your VM configurations, keeping a static IP may safeguard against IP changes during these processes.
