Duplicate accounts

I have accidently created a duplicate Microsoft account. The one I duplicated here recently is actually the one I'd like to use. However, the old account has my Microsoft 365 associated with it. Knowing I can't merge accounts should I cancel my Microsoft 365 on the old account and set it back up on the account the new account I'd prefer to use and delete the old account? Is there any other method you'd suggest? Note that my outlook keeps looking for the new account that does not have the 365 associated with it and says I have run out of storage space.

To address the issue of duplicate Microsoft accounts, you can indeed cancel the Microsoft 365 subscription associated with the old account and then set it up on the new account that you prefer to use. This approach is straightforward and allows you to keep your preferred account active with the necessary services.

Here are the steps you can follow:

    1. Cancel Microsoft 365 on the Old Account: Make sure to verify that all your data is backed up and that you are ready to lose access to any services tied to the old account before proceeding with the cancellation.
    2. Set Up Microsoft 365 on the New Account: Once the old account is canceled, you can subscribe to Microsoft 365 on the new account.
    3. Delete the Old Account: After confirming that everything is functioning correctly on the new account and you no longer need the old one, you can proceed to delete the old account if desired.

Additionally, to resolve the issue with Outlook looking for the new account that does not have Microsoft 365 associated with it, you may need to remove the old account from Outlook and add the new account to ensure it recognizes the correct subscription.

If you encounter any issues with storage space, consider checking the settings in Outlook to ensure it is configured to use the correct account.

    Hi,

You can’t merge Microsoft accounts, and subscriptions don’t transfer between accounts.

If you want everything under the new account, you’ll need to:

Cancel Microsoft 365 on the old account (or wait until renewal).

Purchase Microsoft 365 on the new account.

Migrate your data (OneDrive files and Outlook emails) from the old account to the new one.

After migration, you can delete the old account if you no longer need it.

If you’d rather avoid this process, the simplest option is to keep using the old account for Microsoft 365 and set it as the primary sign-in for Office and Outlook to stop storage warnings. I hope this helps!
