I used Dev Tools earlier to clear Outlook cache. Now the Dev tools screen opens every time I open an email in Outlook. How do I stop it doing this?

Hi Mike,Thank you for sharing your question.

I understand how frustrating it can be when Dev Tools keeps popping up every time you open an email in Outlook—it certainly disrupts your workflow.

This usually happens because Outlook is being launched with developer tools enabled, typically by using the olk.exe --devtools command or through a similar configuration. To resolve this, please ensure you close Dev Tools properly and don’t inadvertently launch Outlook with that switch. If you originally used olk.exe --devtools to clear the cache, make sure you’re now launching Outlook normally, without any extra parameters, so the Dev Tools window doesn’t open alongside it.

It’s also possible that the issue persists due to lingering processes or startup settings. I recommend checking Task Manager for any remaining olk.exe or DevTools-related processes and ending them. Restarting your computer can also help clear temporary configurations or environment variables that might be triggering Dev Tools.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Noel

To stop the Dev Tools from opening every time you open an email in Outlook, you need to ensure that you close the Dev Tools properly after using them. If you opened Outlook with the command olk.exe --devtools, make sure to close both the Dev Tools window and the Outlook client completely.

If the issue persists, you may want to check if there are any lingering processes related to the Dev Tools or Outlook in the Task Manager and end those processes. Additionally, restarting your computer can help clear any temporary settings that might be causing this behavior.
