Sending Emails on Outlook (Mac OS) Has My Email Address But Not Name in From Line

Hi, All of a sudden Outlook no longer includes my name in the From line on emails, just my email address, which is from a domain I own. I need my name there as that is how people know me, not my email address. I have two other accounts included, and they have a properly formatted From line that includes my name.

I have tried everything!

Thanks,

    Hi Grant Sommerfeld

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum! Have a good day and I hope you're doing well!

I know it’s frustrating when this suddenly changes, especially while your other accounts still show your name correctly. Let’s go step by step and see what’s going on.

    I. First, check your display name in Outlook account settings

In New Outlook for Mac, please:

    1. Open Outlook > Settings
    2. Select Accounts
    3. Click the account that only shows the email address

Just under Description, look for fields like Your name / Full name / Personal information. Do you see something like “Your full name/Your email” there? Please make sure your Full Name is filled in correctly.

If the name is set correctly there but new emails still only show the email address in the From line, please try the next steps.

II. Clear the account cache (to avoid sync / data issues)

Sometimes a corrupted cache can cause incomplete or incorrect data to be used.

    1. In Outlook go to Settings > Accounts
    2. Select the problematic account
    3. Click Manage
    4. Choose Reset Account This forces Outlook to re-sync data from the server.

You can also follow Microsoft’s official guide here: Clear the cache in Outlook for Mac

After the reset finishes, please test again.

III. Remove and re‑add the account

If clearing the cache doesn’t help, try signing out/removing and then adding the account back:

Once re‑added, check if your Full Name is correctly set and then test sending a message.

IV. Double‑check what the recipient actually sees

Sometimes Outlook’s From field in the compose window can look odd, but recipients still see the correct display name. Please try:

    1. Send a test email from the problematic account
    2. Send it to one of your other two accounts that are working correctly
    3. Open the received email on that other account and check:
    • Does it show <yourfullname><youremailaddress>
    • Or only youremailaddress without your name?

This helps us know if the problem is only in your local Outlook view or truly in what recipients see.

    V. A bit more information to help pinpoint the issue

To get better insight and suggest the most appropriate troubleshooting path, could you please confirm what type of account this is?

    • Is it a Microsoft 365 for Business / work or school account or is it an IMAP/SMTP account hosted by another provider?

I hope this information is at least partially helpful to you. If you have any concerns, questions, or if anything seems unclear or misunderstood, please feel free to reach out anytime.
