Hi

I have a 365 family login in from a family members account, he doesn't live with me anymore so I bought my own. I've tried to start the subscription but it's blocked as I already have a share.

How do I stop the share? I need to keep all my stuff on my existing One Drive though inc all my office documents etc so in a bit of a panic, will I lose everything? Can anyone advise?

To remove yourself from a family Microsoft 365 subscription while retaining access to your OneDrive files, you can follow these steps:

    1. Sign Out of the Family Account: First, sign out of the family account on all devices where you are logged in.
    2. Create Your Own Microsoft Account: If you haven't already, create a new Microsoft account that you will use for your own subscription.
    3. Transfer Your OneDrive Files: Before leaving the family plan, ensure that your files are backed up. You can do this by downloading your files from OneDrive to your local storage.
    4. Stop Sharing: Ask the family member who owns the subscription to remove you from their family group. They can do this by going to the Microsoft account family settings and removing your account.
    5. Start Your Own Subscription: Once you are removed from the family plan, you can subscribe to your own Microsoft 365 plan using your new Microsoft account.
    6. Upload Your Files: After subscribing, you can upload your previously downloaded files back to your new OneDrive account.

By following these steps, you should be able to keep your files while transitioning to your own Microsoft 365 subscription without losing any data.

    Hello !

To leave a Microsoft family group, you need to be an organizer of the family group. Is it the case ?
If it's not the case, you'll have to ask the person that added you in the family group to remove you from it.

Once done, you can start your own Microsoft 365 subscription. Keep in mind that once you leave the family group, you'll revert to the free version of OneDrive, with 5 GB of storage.
If you're going over the limit, you will not lose anything, but you won't be able to create or import files until you go back under the limit.
