After unplugging my Realtek headphones from the headphone jack, then reconnecting them, I only hear sound from the computer speakers. Under "System/Sound Output," "Select where to play sound," only Speakers is available. There's no Headphones option. Due to this issue, our academic classes are badly affected. Kindly provide solution why jack is not showing after reconnect the jack.

After restarting the PC, the jack appears. The drivers are up to date. PC: HP and Windows 11

It seems that the issue you're experiencing with the headphone jack not being detected after reconnecting your Realtek headphones could be related to jack detection functionality. The audio subsystem in Windows must handle changes in the state of audio output devices, such as the insertion and removal of headphones. If the headphone jack is not recognized immediately after reconnection, it may be due to the audio codec not detecting the event properly.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check Audio Settings: Ensure that your headphones are set as the default playback device. Sometimes, the system may not automatically switch to the headphones after reconnection.
    2. Update Drivers: Although you mentioned that your drivers are up to date, you can try reinstalling the audio drivers. Uninstall the device in Device Manager and then restart your PC to allow Windows to reinstall the drivers automatically.
    3. Use Different USB Ports: If your headphones are USB-connected, try plugging them into a different USB port. This can sometimes resolve detection issues.
    4. Check for Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows is fully updated, as updates can include fixes for audio issues.
    5. Test with Other Devices: If possible, test the headphones on another device to rule out hardware issues with the headphones themselves.
    6. Restart the Audio Service: You can also try restarting the Windows Audio service. Open the Run dialog (Windows + R), type services.msc, find Windows Audio, right-click and select Restart.

If the problem persists, it may require further investigation into the hardware or the specific configuration of your audio system. Since you mentioned that the jack appears after a restart, it indicates that the system is recognizing it eventually, but there may be a delay or failure in detection when reconnecting.

    Hi ,

If it is a laptop or desktop, if possible, could you provide the laptop model or your desktop configuration?

Go to Start Menu > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > select "Choose what the power buttons do" > select "Change settings that are currently unavailable" > uncheck the "Turn on fast startup" option and save changes.

Open the command prompt (admin) and run the commands: sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, wait for the process to finish and restart the computer.

Then perform a clean boot and if you want to uninstall applications that you do not use.

I have tried all the suggested troubleshooting steps, including checking audio settings, reinstalling drivers, using different USB/Audio ports, updating Windows, testing the headphones on another device, and restarting the Windows Audio service. I also tested by changing both the PC and the headphone jack.

However, the issue persists: once the headphone jack is removed and reinserted, it is not detected by the system. The device only appears and starts working again after a full system restart in windows 11.
