Microsoft Outlook Newsletters Components are not editable

I am trying to create a newsletter for my organization, but the text section of the components cannot be edited (ie, I can't type into them). I can change the images in the components, but not the text for any of the available components. Is there a setting I need to change or is this a technical issue?Screenshot 2025-12-02 at 12.47.26 PM

    Hi @Julianda Marseille,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thank you for sharing the screenshot along with a clear description of the issue. I understand how confusing it can be when the blocks display “Add title here…” or “Start typing here…” but do not allow you to type.

In Outlook Newsletters, each section can have designated owners and contributors. If you do not have author or contributor rights for a section, some interface elements (such as image pickers) may still appear, but text fields will remain read-only. This usually indicates either section-level contributor settings or an organization-wide policy set to ReadOnly.

To ensure we fully understand your situation and provide the most effective assistance, we’ll need a few additional details, such as:

    • Are you listed as an Owner of the newsletter and as an author or contributor for the specific edition or section?
Owners can author editions and invite contributors per section. If your access is read-only or you are not added as an owner/contributor, text fields will not accept input.

    • Is your organization’s OWA mailbox policy set to ReadOnly for Newsletters?
Administrators can configure OutlookNewslettersAccessLevel to ReadWrite, ReadOnly, or NoAccess. If it is set to ReadOnly, users can view and change images in some components but cannot edit text.

While waiting for your answer, here are the steps you can try:

A/ Confirm or update your role in the newsletter:

    • In Outlook > Newsletters, open the newsletter and check the Owners list. Ensure you are listed as an Owner.
    • In the draft edition, select the section and click Add contributor, then add yourself. Only owners and contributors can edit text blocks in that section.

B/ Ask your Microsoft 365 admin to verify the policy:

If you still cannot type after confirming your role, share this with your admin so they can check the organization setting in PowerShell:

    Get-OwaMailboxPolicy | ft Name, OutlookNewslettersAccessLevel

    Set-OwaMailboxPolicy -Identity "OwaMailboxPolicy-Default" -OutlookNewslettersAccessLevel ReadWrite

(Optional) Create a pilot policy and assign it to your account if needed.

    C/ Perform basic editor checks:

    • Sign out and back in, or try an InPrivate/Incognito window with extensions disabled. Some privacy or ad-blocking extensions can interfere with the rich editor scripts.
    • Confirm you are editing an edition, not a template opened in read-only mode. Templates cannot be published and do not allow contributor edits.

I hope this information helps. Please try these steps and let me know if they resolve the issue. If not, we can continue working together to find a solution.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to share them in the comments so I can continue to support you.

I look forward to hearing back from you.
