M365 Copilot agent shared with colleague cannot retrieve answers from SharePoint folder despite access

I created an M365 Copilot agent (built within M365 Copilot, not Copilot Studio) and shared it with a colleague who also has a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. The agent uses a SharePoint folder as its knowledge source.

When my colleague chats with the agent, it consistently responds that it cannot come up with an answer based on the knowledge files provided. When I use the same agent, it works. As a control test, an agent that uses local files only works for both of us, so the issue seems specific to the SharePoint‑based knowledge source when the agent is shared.

How the agent is shared

  • Share option: Specific users in your organization
  • I explicitly added my colleague’s email address and sent the resulting link.
  • My colleague opens the agent via that link.

What I have verified

  • The colleague can open the same SharePoint folder directly and view/edit the files without issue, so SharePoint access appears correct.
  • When using the agent, my colleague is logged in via the correct Microsoft work account (same tenant)

How can we make sure that my M365 Copilot agent is able to ground answers on a SharePoint folder for any user who already has access to that folder?

Hopefully anyone can point us towards the right direction.
