Hello Frank,
Thank you for asking about starting a new line of text inside a cell in Excel. I understand how important it is to make your data look organized and I appreciate you bringing this up. The reason this can be tricky is that Excel normally interprets the Enter key as a command to move to the next cell rather than creating a line break.
A different way to achieve this is by enabling Wrap Text for the cell. First select the cell or range of cells where you want multiple lines. Then go to the Home tab on the ribbon and click Wrap Text in the Alignment group. After that type your text and use the appropriate shortcut for your device on Windows press Alt + Enter and on Mac press Control and Option plus Return to insert a line break. This ensures the text wraps properly and displays on multiple lines within the same cell.
Could you let me know if you are using Excel on Windows, Mac or the web so I can confirm the best steps for your version?
I hope this answer is helpful if you have further questions feel free to reply back
Regards,
Marcelo
