The updates of Edge browser since 3/11/2025 have messed the browser theme up.

Now, whatever theme I choose, the browser reverts back to the "light" theme. If i go to the settings, the settings show that "dark" is chosen!!! but what i see is "light" theme everywhere!

what is going on?!?

It seems like you are experiencing an issue where the Microsoft Edge browser theme is not applying correctly, despite the settings indicating that the dark theme is selected. This could be due to a bug or glitch in the browser following recent updates. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Restart Edge: Sometimes, simply closing and reopening the browser can help apply the theme changes.
    2. Clear Cache: Clearing the browser cache can sometimes fix display issues. Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data.
    3. Reset Settings: You can reset Edge settings to their default values. Go to Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their default values.
    4. Check for Updates: Ensure that your Edge browser is updated to the latest version, as updates often include bug fixes.
    5. Reinstall Edge: If the problem persists, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the Edge browser.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be worth checking the Microsoft Edge support forums or contacting Microsoft support for further assistance.

Windows 11 settings > Apps > installed apps > Microsoft edge > three dots menu > Modify > Repair

This solved the problem at the moment without resetting the browser. I maintained all my favourites, extensions and settings.

    Hi @t m

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I apologize for the inconvenience you’re experiencing with configuring dark mode in Edge. I understand it can be uncomfortable to browse in light mode when that’s not your preference. Since the standard settings indicate “Dark” but aren’t applying correctly, we’ll need to refresh the browser’s theme engine using the internal flags menu.

Please follow these steps to force a reset of the theme configuration:

Step 1: Open the flags menu

    1. Open Microsoft Edge.
    2. In the address bar at the very top (where you usually type website URLs), type the following and press Enter: edge://flags
(Note: This opens the experimental features menu. Please be careful to only change the setting listed below.)

Step 2: Locate the dark mode setting

    1. In the search box at the top of the Flags page, type: Dark Mode
    2. You should see an option labeled "Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents".
      User's image

Step 3: Toggle the setting to force a refresh

    1. Click the dropdown menu next to this option (it likely says "Default").
    2. Change it to Enabled.
    3. A Restart button will appear at the bottom right corner of the window. Click it to restart Edge.

    Step 4: Revert to normal

    1. Once Edge reopens, you might notice websites look different (darker). We now need to set it back to normal to see if the UI is fixed.
    2. Repeat the steps to go back to edge://flags.
    3. Change "Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents" back to Default.
    4. Click Restart one last time.

    Step 5: Verify Your Theme

Go to Settings > Appearance and try selecting Dark again.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

I'm looking forward to your reply.
