How remove a recently added tab from the ribbon in classic Outlook

I added the Developer to the Home tag on Outlook. I now want to remove it. When I go to Customize Ribbon/Customize the Classic Ribbon, the only relevant choice appears to be Reset. However, I do not want reset everything in the tab; I only want to remove Developer.

What step am I overlooking?Screenshot-customize ribbon

    Hi @Reid-7439,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Regarding to your question about customize the ribbon, you don’t need to use Reset (All Customizations). Here are three cases you can try depending on what exactly was added:

1/ If you enabled the Developer tab itself:

    • File > Options > Customize Ribbon.
    • In the right pane (Customize the Classic Ribbon), ensure Main Tabs is selected.
    • Uncheck the checkbox next to Developer.
    • Click OK.

    User's image

This simply hides the Developer tab and leaves all other tabs/groups intact.

2/ If you added a Developer group into the Home tab:

    • File > Options > Customize Ribbon.
    • In the right pane, expand Home (Mail).
    • Select the Developer (custom) group you added under Home.
    • Click Remove (button below the tree).
    • Click OK.

    User's image

This removes only the custom group from Home, not the entire tab.

3/ If you tweaked the Home tab and want to undo just those changes:

    • In Customize Ribbon, select only Home (Mail) in the right pane and uncheck all other options.
    • Open the Reset dropdown > choose Reset only selected ribbon tab.
    • Click OK. User's image

This reverts the Home tab to its default state without affecting other tabs or your Quick Access Toolbar.

To identify which case you can apply:

    • In the right pane, if 'Developer' appears as a top-level item with a checkbox (similar to Home, Send/Receive, or View), it indicates that it's a tab, you can enable it by checking the box.
    • If 'Developer' appears nested under 'Home' and displays '(custom)' when selected, it means it's part of a custom group, in that case, please follow option 2.

After you make the change, close and reopen Outlook if the Ribbon doesn’t refresh immediately.

Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

I'm looking forward to your reply.
