New Teams crashes whenever I turn on a webcam in a meeting

Ever since I updated Windows back in April 2023, I have been experiencing an issue where Microsoft Teams crashes and restarts every time I try to turn on my camera during a meeting or call.

  • Whenever I enable my camera in Microsoft Teams, the application restarts automatically.
  • I have tried multiple webcams and they all have the same issue, and I have tested the webcam in other applications, and it works perfectly fine there.
  • This issue only occurs within the Microsoft Teams Desktop Application, but works fine in the Web version of Teams.

What I’ve Tried:

  • Multiple webcams from various manufacturers
  • Updated Webcam drivers
  • Restarted my device
  • Updated Microsoft Teams to the latest version
  • Checked for Windows updates
  • Verified camera privacy settings
  • Reinstalled Microsoft Teams
  • Removed the April 2025 update, which temporarily resolved it until the May update ran
  • I reinstalled a fresh version of Windows at the beginning of October 2025, but the issue persists

I have tried everything I can think of over the past 6 months and really don't want to use Teams in my browser. Please help!

    Hi @Larsen, Tom,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

We truly regret the inconvenience you've encountered and greatly value the steps you've taken to resolve the issue.

Here're suggestions you can try to fix it:

    1. Clear Teams cache

    For Windows:

    • If Teams is still running, right-click the Teams icon on the taskbar, and then select Quit.
    • Pressing Windows+R to open the Run dialog box.
    • In the Run dialog box, enter the following path, and then select OK.

    %userprofile%\appdata\local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams

    • Delete all files and folders in the directory.
    • Restart Teams.

    For macOS:

    • If Teams is still running, right-click the Teams icon in the dock, and then select Quit or press Command+Q.
    • In the Finder, open the /Applications/Utilities folder, and then double-click Terminal.
    • Enter the following commands, and press Return after each command:

    rm -rf ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teams

    rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2

    • Restart Teams.

    2.  Use camera diagnostic tools (for Windows)

    • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters
    • Run Camera and Video Playback.

Thank you for your reply. This morning while I was modifying my startup apps, I noticed this application was set to launch at startup:

I not set Teams to run at startup, so I disabled it, and now it appears the camera is working. I hope it stays that way. If not I will submit feedback and continue my pursuit.

Unfortunately, the issue has returned today. I will submit the bug.
